ROBERT WATERHOUSE is a director and playwright who divides his time between Buffalo, NY and the U.K., where he grew up. His own plays include his award-winning adaptation of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (New Phoenix Theatre Company, 2014; Artie Award for Outstanding Direction of a Play; Buffalo Spree Award for Most Innovative Production) as well as LOUISIANA BACCHAE (Red Thread Theatre/Jim Bush Studios, 2016; Artie nomination for Outstanding New Play), BOUNTY: THE MUTINY, AS PERFORMED BY THE SAILORS ON PITCAIRN’S ISLAND (New Phoenix Theatre, 2013; Artie nomination for Outstanding New Play) and FREUD AND THE SANDMAN (New Phoenix Theatre, 2009; Artie award for Outstanding Direction of a Play), which were developed in collaboration with the acting companies. 

Bob has also directed over 50 other productions, many of them for the Kavinoky Theatre in Buffalo NY (A DOLL’S HOUSE: PART TWO, BEN BUTLER, THE CRUCIBLE, THE FATHER, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, CITY OF CONVERSATION, GOOD PEOPLE and TIME STANDS STILL are among recent favorites); the New Phoenix Theatre (in Buffalo, NY; favorite productions include VENUS IN FUR, IN THE NEXT ROOM, THE BLUE ROOM, METAMORPHOSIS) and for Academy Theatre (Atlanta, GA), where he directed a number of devised shows in collaboration with at-risk youth. 

Bob’s interests lie in reigniting classics, in writing and devising new work, and in working with young people. Bob is a member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers, the Dramatists Guild, and the Playwrights’ Center.

Publications include ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, an adaptation of the novel by Erich Maria Remarque (Dramatists Play Service).
